In recognition of the thousands of homeless dogs and cats in Mecklenburg County, the Humane Society of Charlotte is hosting its largest annual fundraiser, the Pet Palooza dog walk, Kennelly 5K run and pet festival to support the organization’s mission. This year’s event promises something for everyone including:

Get your pets vaccinated at April and May rabies clinics

UNION COUNTY - Rabies clinics for dogs and cats will be held at 16 locations from April 21 – May 19.

N.C. state law requires the owner of every dog, cat and ferret over four months old to have their animal vaccinated against rabies.

The price for vaccinations will be $10 cash.

CONCORD, NC (WBTV) - Second Chance Kitten Rescue will hold a fundraising yard sale this Saturday.  Proceeds will go towards spay/neuter projects for local cats.  Come out, shop and help reduce the kitten population this summer.

Shelter visit creates smiles

WINGATE- Some very special students were treated to a fun day at the Union County Animal Shelter recently. Students from the Wolfe School visited with animals in the adoption area of the shelter.

They also brought the animals homemade treats. The visit was part of an ongoing program between the Animal Shelter and the Wolfe School.

More classes from the school are scheduled to visit the shelter in the coming weeks.

MONROE (Union County Public Schools) - A surprising opportunity of a lifetime!

It is said that a dog is a man’s best friend. Presidents down through the ages have had first dogs and firstcats as pets that have become famous.

President Obama, received the first dog, Bo, a Portuguese Water Dog puppy as a gift from Senator Ted Kennedy in April 2009. Recently, a brother and sister from Union County Public Schoolswere given an exciting opportunity – petting the first dog.

Fall Rabies and Micro-Chip Clinic in Monroe

MONROE - The Humane Society of Union County and Southern States are hosting a Fall Rabies and Micro-Chip Clinic on Saturday, October 29 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Rabies vaccinations will cost $10 and micro-chips are $20.

WBTV Furry Friends: Adorable Bo Bo is waiting for his new home!

MONROE - Bo is a sweet pup! A mix of boxer and... well, let's leave that to your imagination.

He is 7months old and weighs about 30 lbs, and will probably grow to 40lbs.

Bo is crate trained and is a quick learner. He has been fully vetted, vaccinated, neutered and micro-chipped.
